SARA ERRANI VS ANNA-KAROLINA SCHMIEDLOVA PREDICTION
Former number five Sara Errani has enjoyed a surprising recent revival on tour, earning her place with three straight-sets results in qualifying to build on wins over the likes of Amanda Anisimova and Caroline Wozniacki at Madrid and Rome, respectively.
The 37-year-old will enjoy a home-from-home support as a popular veteran, and former finalist in 2012, but 29-year-old Anna-Karolina Schmiedlova enjoyed a career-best run to the last 16 here last season and she upset in-form Mayar Sherif to win the Parma Challenger last weekend, moving back up to world number 53rd as a result.
It is notable, but nine years on largely inconsequential, that the pair each won a final against the other on clay back in 2015, with Errani winning in Rio and Schmiedlova in Bucharest. On current form, and recent performances in Paris, back Schmiedlova to earn at least a set here to leave what could end up a thriller up to chance.
