THE PREDICTION
This should be an entertaining first meeting between former world number seven Richard Gasquet and world number 12 Cam Norrie, with the Brit the clear favourite here. 27-year-old Norrie once again comfortably navigated past Jenson Brooksby’s unorthodox tennis to settle into his groove after four three-set wins on the spin and he takes a six-match winning streak into the Auckland final, where he made his first tour final back in 2019. Norrie grew up in New Zealand and he will be backed like a home talent here against world number 67 Gasquet, who received a walkover to the final after Constant Lestienne pulled out of their semi-final. Gasquet has enjoyed another encouraging week on tour to prove there is plenty of tennis ahead for the veteran but Norrie’s game is well-equipped to deal with his set of skills. Two great deflectors would make for a thriller if Gasquet was at his peak but at this stage of his career Norrie can be backed to win his fifth ATP title in straight sets.
