THE PREDICTION

World number two Aryna Sabalenka has finished runner-up to Iga Swiatek at the Stuttgart Open in each of the past two seasons, and to the world number one in each of the past three after also losing to Ash Barty here three years ago. The 25-year-old is a powerful presence on any court but she certainly favours the next two tournaments of the clay swing, with indoor conditions in Stuttgart and high-altitude in Madrid benefitting her hammer serve.

Former number two Paula Badosa and Sabalenka are firm friends off of the court, making their match at the Miami Open all the more bittersweet following the death of Sabalenka’s former partner, and this should be another good-natured edition in a competitive head-to-head. Sabalenka leads 3-2 having won each of their last three, with the Belarussian improving over the past few seasons as the Spaniard has regressed, but Badosa impressed against Diana Shnaider on Monday to pose a threat. Back Sabalenka, who will be eager to move on from last month’s tragedy and the media storm around it, to reach the quarter-finals.

TIP: ARYNA SABALENKA TO WIN
