World number 19 Pablo Carreno Busta snapped a poor run of form to beat David Goffin in straight sets on Friday. The 30-year-old has won just two of his last five matches since a strong run to the round of 16 at the Australian Open was ended in three sets by Matteo Berrettini. Carreno Busta added two titles to his now career total of six last season at the Andalucia Open and Hamburg Open, both on clay.
JANNIK SINNER
World number 11 Jannik Sinner overcame an impressive Emil Ruusuvuori in three sets on Friday, beating the Finn at the Miami Open for a second year running. The 20-year-old already owns five ATP titles after claiming four last season, including a first ATP 500 event at the Washington Open. The Italian just missed out on ATP Finals qualification but he came in as Matteo Berrettini’s replacement and almost beat Daniil Medvedev, losing the deciding tiebreak 10-8.
THE PREDICTION
Pablo Carreno Busta’s form has been all over the place this season but a victory over David Goffin, also well out of sorts himself, is an encouraging one. He beat Jannik Sinner in three sets in their only previous meeting at last season’s Rotterdam Open but the Italian has come on strength from strength since and he should be backed to return the favour here. Only Stefanos Tsitsipas and Hubert Hurkacz have beaten Sinner this season but his close call against Ruusuvuori makes taking him at outright a sensible concession here.
