World number two Ons Jabeur passed a significant test on Friday with a straight-sets victory over an impressive Marta Kostyuk but she will face another challenge here against rising star Linda Noskova. 18-year-old Noskova qualified with flying colours last weekend before a stunning upset against Daria Kasatkina but her most impressive result came on Friday when she beat former world number one Victoria Azarenka, without the element of surprise, in three tight sets. This will be Noskova’s sixth match of what has been a transformative week for the teenager, who saved a match point against Azarenka, but beating Jabeur in the Tunisian’s current form should be one step too far. There is more than a scent of an upset here, though, which makes backing Jabeur to win at least a set the suitably cautious move and for Noskova to do so a tempting risk.
