World number 93 Misaki Doi started the season off in promising form with a run to the semi-finals of Adelaide 1 but she has since won just one match. That came in three sets against Anastasia Potapova in the first round of Indian Wells two weeks ago and a three-set defeat to Madison Keys in the second round suggests she could be on the way back up. Her working level should be enough to beat 37-year-old Vera Zvonareva, though, as the Russian veteran takes a poor seven-match losing streak into the Miami Open with just one win all season long. Former world number two Zvonareva’s last of 12 WTA titles came more than a decade ago at the Qatar Open and she owns two Masters titles from Indian Wells in 2009 and Cincinnati in 2006 but at this stage of her career the doubles side of the game is where her prospects remain.
