THE PREDICTION

World number seven Andrey Rublev beat J.J. Wolf in straight sets on Friday for a solid opener to his Miami Open campaign and the 25-year-old should be targeting a Masters title this season after doing plenty of winning at ATP 500 and 250 level. The Russian finished runner-up to Daniil Medvedev at the Dubai Tennis Championships last month with a searing campaign that featured a first victory over Alexander Zverev but he was caught cold with a poor performance against Cam Norrie to crash out of Indian Wells in the round of 16 last week. World number 35 Miomir Kecmanovic overcame Ugo Humbert in three tight sets on Friday for an impressive start to his campaign. The 23-year-old found the form of his life this time last season with back-to-back quarter-finals on the Sunshine Double but has been struggling to match that effort in recent months despite finishing runner-up to Taylor Fritz at the Delray Beach Open last month. Rublev beat Kecmanovic in straight sets in their only previous meeting back in 2020 but the Serb has an excellent recent record in Florida that should not be sniffed at. Back Rublev to win outright here.
