World number six Matteo Berrettini took out Lloyd Harris in straight sets on Monday in an altogether more composed performance than his opener against Holger Rune. The 25-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open earlier this season, where he lost to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in four sets. Berrettini won a first ATP 500 event last season at Queen’s Club and he reached a first Masters final earlier in the year, losing to Alexander Zverev at the Madrid Open.
MIOMIR KECMANOVIC
World number 61 Miomir Kecmanovic backed up a huge three-set victory over Marin Cilic in the second round with a straight-sets win over in-form Botic Van de Zandschulp in the third round on Monday. The Serb is clearly fining his feet again after a difficult 2021 season, with this upturn in form taking him nicely towards a now very promising swing on his favoured clay this Spring. The 22-year-old lost to Gael Monfils at this stage of the Australian Open back in January and he has one round to go to match his best showing at Indian Wells with a quarter-final exit here in 2019.
THE PREDICTION
This could end up quite the thriller in a first meeting between Matteo Berrettini and Miomir Kecmanovic if the Serb can bring his battling best. World number six Matteo Berrettini is still a little way off his absolute peak that saw him reach the Wimbledon final last season and Kecmanovic has played well in tiebreaks so far this week, something that the Italian can often count on.
