World number six Matteo Berrettini has struggled for match time in recent weeks and it showed against Holger Rune on Sunday in a three-set victory. The 25-year-old reached the semi-finals of the Australian Open at the start of the season before losing to eventual champion Rafael Nadal in four sets. Berrettini won the fifth ATP title of his career last season at Queen’s Club on grass, a surface that clearly favours him as he went on to finish runner-up to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon.
LLOYD HARRIS
25-year-old Lloyd Harris grabbed the first win of his season in a three-set tussle with Facundo Bagnis that should give him a huge confidence boost. The South African finished runner-up to Aslan Karatsev at the ATP 500 Dubai Tennis Championships last year, with a victory over Rafael Nadal at the Washington Open and a run to the quarter-finals of the US Open his other stand-out achievements.
THE PREDICTION
World number 32 Lloyd Harris should look a new player on Tuesday after snapping a six-match losing streak stretching back to a semi-final defeat to Jannik Sinner at the European Open in October. The 25-year-old beat Rafael Nadal last season in what proved to be the Spaniard’s last tournament for some time but he has otherwise struggled to beat the very top players. World number six Matteo Berrettini beat Harris in straight sets at Roland-Garros in 2020 and he is well capable of doing the same here but with both players not at their best take the Italian to win outright.
