World number 21 Elena Rybakina is perhaps the most hard-done-by Grand Slam champion in recent years after the Wimbledon ban controversy saw her miss out on 2000 ranking points that would see her comfortably within the top 10 right now. Her method of victory, from a set down over the hugely popular Ons Jabeur, also led to a muted response from the live crowd and wider tennis world and her ability to cope with these outer factors over the remainder of 2022 was very impressive indeed. The Kazakh has a bit of everything in her already watertight game at 23 years old and she should be able to break the top 10 this season having got perilously close this time last year at a career-high of 12th. World number 69 Marta Kostyuk is still a raw talent at 20 years old but she too should be targeting a big season of rising up the rankings with so much to like about her game. The Ukrainian qualified well this weekend before a three-set tussle with Jaimee Fourlis that suggests she is not quite ready to challenge the likes of Rybakina, who came back from a set down to oust fifth-seed Danielle Collins in the first round. Back Rybakina to win outright here, although straight sets should do it.
