MARKETA VONDROUSOVA
World number 33 Marketa Vondrousova reached the semi-finals of the Dubai Tennis Championships last month before having to pull out of the tournament through injury. The 22-year-old famously finished runner-up to Ash Barty at Roland-Garros in 2019 but she can add a Silver Medal from the Tokyo Olympic Games to her list of achievements after finishing runner-up to Belinda Bencic last summer.
MAGDALENA FRECH
24-year-old Magdalena Frech is up to her career-high WTA world ranking this week and she beat Mayar Sherif in straight sets on Thursday to reach the second round of Indian Wells for successive seasons. The Pole lost to Karolina Pliskova in straight sets at this stage last October.
THE PREDICTION
This is the first tour-level meeting between Marketa Vondrousova and Magdalena Frech and there is a real opportunity for the Pole to cause an upset here. Vondrousova has not played for over three weeks now since retiring from the Dubai tennis Championships and she could be stunned early if she does not get off to a good start. Taking the Czech to win outright looks the sensible option here but this match would be best left out of an accumulator.
