THE PREDICTION
23-year-old Mariano Navone will break inside the top 40 for the first time on tour after beating Alexei Popyrin in impressive straight sets on Wednesday. The Argentine has finished runner-up at two of his last three tournaments on clay, to Sebastian Baez in Rio and Marton Fucsovics last week in Bucharest, and it took eventual Marrakech champion Matteo Berrettini to oust him from the semi-finals there two weeks ago. 20-year-old Holger Rune dropped out of the top 10 this week, for the first time since his incredible victory over Novak Djokovic at the Paris Masters in late 2022, after failing to defend his Munich Open title. A sorry 6-2 6-0 defeat to eventual champion Jan-Lennard Struff – who had already played a match that day due to rain delays – is in keeping with some really odd form over the past nine or so months and the Dane struggled to make a dent here last season to suggest an upset is on the cards. Back Navone to earn at least a set to leave the result up to chance.
TIP: MARIANO NAVONE TO WIN A SET
