World number six Maria Sakkari beat Katerina Siniakova in straight sets on Saturday in keeping with some excellent recent form. The 26-year-old finished runner-up to Anett Kontaveit at the St. Petersburg Open last month before exiting in the semi-finals of the Qatar Masters to eventual champion Iga Swiatek. Former world number two Petra Kvitova was forced to come back from a set down to Aliaksandra Sasnovich on Saturday but she will be relieved to do so after some stuttering form in 2022. The 32-year-old has shown some signs of improvement in recent weeks with a victory over Aryna Sabalenka the stand-out result at the Dubai Tennis Championships. Kvitova won Wimbledon in 2011 and 2014 and she owns six Masters titles amongst her career total of 28.

Maria Sakkari and Petra Kvitova have shared some high-profile battles over the last few years with five of their six meetings coming at Masters or Grand Slams. Their head-to-head record is finely poised at 3-3, with a win apiece last season suggesting this match could go to three sets as it did in Kvitova’s win at the Stuttgart Open on clay.
