World number 63 Magda Linette beat Qinwen Zheng in straight sets on Tuesday to reach the second round of the Miami Open. The 30-year-old won the most recent of her two WTA titles at the Hua Hin Open in 2020, with her first coming at the Bronx Open in 2019.
ONS JABEUR
World number 10 Ons Jabeur was stunned in three sets by Daria Saville in the second round of Indian Wells last time out but she reached the quarter-finals in the three previous tournaments in which she has played this year. The Tunisian won her first WTA title last summer at the Birmingham Classic on grass, a surface that clearly suited here as she put in a brilliant run to reach the quarter-finals of Wimbledon.
THE PREDICTION
Magda Linette has a fair chance here with Ons Jabeur currently below par by her lofty standards. The world number 10 has lost to Anett Kontaveit twice and Simona Halep once this season, other than her recent shock defeat by Daria Saville, and that sort of level are the opponents she should be measuring herself again. A popular player on tour, Jabeur is likely to enjoy most of the support here and realistically she should be backed to come through outright. Jabeur beat Linette in three sets at Roland-Garros last season to go 2-1 up in their head-to-head.
