The USA’s embarrassment of riches really came to the fore on Saturday as world number 11 Madison Keys, by far the highest-ranked second option on the WTA side of the draw, blasted past in-form Magda Linette to add insult to injury in an eventual 5-0 whitewash over Poland. 27-year-old Keys won her seventh WTA title this time last season in Adelaide and she has started 2023 in much the same vein, with world number 54 Lucia Bronzetti facing a real uphill battle here. The Italian has served her nation well this week, losing only to Linette in the Brisbane City Final, and she will get close to breaking the top 50 with a new career-high for her trouble. A first meeting with Keys should be too steep a climb at this moment in time, though, and Keys can be backed to win in straight sets.
