World number 11 Madison Keys started last season off on fire with a seventh WTA title won before a huge run to the semi-finals of the Australian Open and she looks in similar shape so far in 2023. The 27-year-old has beaten two of the tougher WTA second options this week in Wimbledon quarter-finalists Jule Niemeier and Marie Bouzkova but the American is by far the highest-ranked number two in the competition. This is a huge challenge for Great Britain’s Katie Swan, who has done her nation proud this week with two victories over Australia’s Zoe Hives and Spain’s Nuria Parrizas-Diaz, the latter of which from a set down. The world number 145 looks set for the best season of her career if she can maintain this sort of level but it would take a miraculous lift in level to oust Keys in this form.
