World number 63 Mackenzie McDonald grabbed an eye-catching shock win over Dan Evans on Monday as his form continues to improve on tour since he started playing doubles with Marcelo Melo. The 27-year-old made the semi-finals alongside the Brazilian last week at Adelaide 1 and the pair claimed their first title together at the Japan Open last October, with McDonald going on to make the semi-finals in his next singles campaign at the Firenze Open. World number 77 Mikael Ymer remains one of the more unpredictable players on the ATP tour but there were some more signs of improvement in 2022 when he reached the semi-finals of the ATP 500 Citi Open event before defeat to eventual champion Nick Kyrgios. 24-year-old Ymer should be a top 50 player by now but a three-set victory over Emil Ruusuvuori on Tuesday was an encouraging result early this year.
