World number 44 Lloyd Harris beat Denis Shapovalov in straight sets on Saturday to reach the third round of the Miami Open without dropping one. The 25-year-old also beat Shapovalov on his way to a first tour final at the Dubai Tennis Championships last season, where he lost to Aslan Karatsev. Harris reached the quarter-finals of the US Open last September, again beating Shapovalov en-route, before a four-set loss to Alexander Zverev.
YOSHIHITO NISHIOKA
World number 96 Yoshihito Nishioka extended his great record against Dan Evans win a comeback victory on Saturday. The 26-year-old looks to be coming out of his long spell of poor form, with a recent victory over Taylor Fritz proof of what he can do at his best. The Japanese player won his only ATP title to date at the Shenzhen Open in 2018.
THE PREDICTION
Both Lloyd Harris and Yoshihito Nishioka have been struggling for wins until recently this season but both took out seeded players in the second round to set-up an intriguing third round clash. Harris won the only previous meeting between the two in straight sets at last season’s Cincinnati Open but Nishioka can be a great disrupter when is in the mood and three sets seems a distinct possibility. Take Harris to win outright here, or more cautiously to win at least a set as the likelier winner.
