20-year-old Lisa Pigato set a new career-high WTA world ranking of 318th after finishing runner-up at an ITF event in her native Italy last week, doing enough to claim a wildcard here in Rome for the second year running. Pigato beat fellow wildcard Diletta Cherubini to reach the second round this time last season but she has drawn a much tougher test this time around in former number 30 Shelby Rogers, who will be keen to make the most of this excellent opportunity. The 31-year-old is currently ranked lower than Pigato as she continues her return from her latest lengthy injury absence but four first-round wins in a row say she should have little trouble coming through this first encounter in straight sets.
