KATERINA SINIAKOVA
World number 53 Katerina Siniakova has twice come back from a set down this week to beat Rebecca Marino and then 11th-seed Emma Raducanu at the Miami Open. The Czech is a decorated doubles champion alongside fellow Czech Barbora Krejcikova but she also owns two WTA singles titles from the Shenzhen Open and Bastad Open, both in 2017. Siniakova finished runner-up to Angelique Kerber at the Bad Homburg Open last summer.
DARIA SAVILLE
28-year-old Daria Saville (née Gavrilova) recalibrated well after her second round match with Simona Halep was cancelled last minute, with a straight-sets victory over lucky loser Harmony Tan on Thursday. The former world number 20 spent much of the last two seasons away from tennis but she has just broken back into the top 200 with her second straight-sets win this week. Saville won the New Haven Open title back in 2017.
THE PREDICTION
Daria Saville has beaten Katerina Siniakova on two previous occasions back in her prime with at the Hong Kong Tennis Open in 2016 and in three sets at the Birmingham Classic a year later. 25-year-old Siniakova is without her doubles partner Barbora Krejcikova right now, with the Roland-Garros champion injured, and cancelling her doubles partnership this week with Storm Sanders looks the right decision as she focuses on this promising singles run. Three sets seems a realistic outcome and that makes backing Saville to take at least one of them the sensible member of an accumulator.
