THE PREDICTION
World number 79 Albert Ramos-Vinolas has endured a woeful season so far but the 35-year-old veteran has battled through two three-set victories over Fabio Fognini and Lorenzo Sonego in Gstaad to look suddenly improved. The Spaniard won his second of now four ATP titles on clay here back in 2019 and he has won at least one title in each of his past two seasons, with time running out for a third in a row as the clay swing starts to pack up for another year. World number 66 Juan Pablo Varillas conceded just three games to Facundo Bagnis on Thursday to maintain an excellent campaign at the Swiss Open. The 27-year-old is enjoying the form of his life this season with a recent run to the round of 16 at Roland-Garros and a first tour final reached at the Chile Open in February, where he lost to Nicolas Jarry. The Peruvian beat an out-of-sorts Ramos-Vinolas in three sets at the Lyon Open in May but he trails the Spaniard 3-1 in their head-to-head, with all four meetings coming on clay. Varillas is the form player overall but it would be wise not to underestimate Ramos-Vinolas if he finally feels like his game is coming together. Back Varillas to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
