THE PREDICTION

Former world number one Andy Murray let a strong start get away with him against Alexandre Muller on Thursday but the Brit came back to win the next two sets comfortably. All five of the current world number 70’s wins have come in deciding sets so far as he continues to struggle with maintaining ruthlessness on court but the battle is back and he is improving all the time under the tutelage of Ivan Lendl. 21-year-old Jiri Lehecka is nearing a return to the top 40 after reaching the quarter-finals of the Australian Open last month and he came back from a set down to beat top seed Andrey Rublev on Thursday to prove his credentials in Doha. The hard-hitting Czech looks set to enjoy a proper breakthrough season this year after failing to capitalise on a strong start in 2022 and results so far suggest he is the slight favourite in this first encounter with Murray. Given Murray’s matches this season so far, taking Lehecka to earn at least a set looks the suitably cautious way to avoid picking a winner but you could also consider the total of three sets option.
