THE PREDICTION
Both world number 13 Jelena Ostapenko and number 18 Qinwen Zheng beat Donna Vekic in three sets this week to make this a straight-up shoot out for the semi-finals at the WTA Elite Trophy. 26-year-old Ostapenko has endured a really erratic season, even by her standards, in 2023 but recent wins over the likes of Jessica Pegula and Iga Swiatek are proof of what she can do when everything works together. 21-year-old Zheng brought a career-high WTA world ranking into the tournament after recently adding the Zhengzhou 500 to her maiden title in Palermo back in July. The Chinese number one will be backed to the hilt here and she has won each of their two previous encounters but no one enjoys spoiling the party more than Ostapenko. The Latvian finds her best when she is least backed and with so many of her matches seeing three sets this season the shrewd move could be taking her to earn at least one to leave the result up to chance.
BETTING TIP: Jelena Ostapenko to win a set.
