THE PREDICTION

18-year-old Jakub Mensik has enjoyed a dream run to his maiden ATP tour final, with huge results over Alejandro Davidovich Fokina, Andy Murray, Gael Monfils and top seed Andrey Rublev seeing him break inside the top 90 for the first time no matter the outcome here. The Czech impressed in a five-set exit to Hubert Hurkacz at the Australian Open last month to suggest a run like this was possible but his defeat of Rublev, especially, says he can go all the way here in Doha. World number 17 Karen Khachanov has yet to drop a set this week after ousting in-form Alexei Popyrin on Friday via an opening 14-12 tiebreak. The Russian won the Zhuhai Championships last summer to snap a serious title drought of five years and he has the experience required to weather Mensik’s early pressure here. However, it is hard not to back the Czech to complete a life-changing campaign after the results he has strung together here. Back Mensik to earn at least a set to leave the victor of a likely thriller up to chance.

TIP: JAKUB MENSIK TO WIN A SET
