Iva Jovic defended her title at the Guadalajara Open last time out, beating Peyton Stearns in the final. Jovic was rarely troubled throughout the tournament, winning the title without dropping a set. That follows an encouraging run to the round-of-16 at the US Open, where her run ended against world number four Coco Gauff. Jovic received a bye in the first-round and now faces Harriet Dart.

The Brit continued her impressive run of form with a three set win over Yihan Qu. Dart, who had to qualify for the event, was made to work hard for the victory, breaking her opponent’s serve in the 12th game of the decider to claim a 6-2 6-7 (5) 7-5 after three hours and three minutes. She also qualified and advanced to round two at the US Open, with the 30-year-old having won seven of her last eight matches.

Dart deserves credit for her upturn in results, but Jovic will be a huge step up in class.
