The former world number 22 recently reached the semi-finals of the St. Petersburg Open with a similar result over Petra Kvitova. Begu owns four career WTA titles, the most recent coming at her home tournament at the 2017 Bucharest Open.
ALIAKSANDRA SASNOVICH
World number 60 Aliaksandra Sasnovich continues to impress on tour, with a straight-sets victory over 25th seed Daria Kasatkina on Thursday backing up a solid win over Xinyu Wang in the first round. The 28-year-old has finished runner-up twice on tour at the 2018 Brisbane Open and the Seoul Open in 2015, where she lost to Irina-Camelia Begu.
THE PREDICTION
In-form Aliaksandra Sasnovich looks the initial favourite for this interesting third round clash until you look at her record against Irina-Camelia Begu. The Romanian leads 3-0, with two victories coming just last year at the Gippsland Trophy and Cleveland Championships and the first way back in 2015 in the Seoul Open final. Sasnovich’s form has greatly improved since their last meeting but it is hard to look past the evidence.
