World number 29 Madison Keys stopped Harriet Dart’s unlikely Indian Wells run in straight sets on Monday to reach the quarter-finals of Indian Wells for the first time. The former world number seven finished runner-up to Sloane Stephens at the US Open in 2017, with her Cincinnati Open title two years later her most prestigious to date. Keys won her sixth WTA title at the start of the season in Adelaide.

This should be blockbuster tennis on Wednesday evening between possibly the most in-form woman in the world right now, Iga Swiatek, and a resurgent Madison Keys. 20-year-old Swiatek is a popular player on tour who should collect a few new fans along the way in this high-profile quarter-final but the majority of the support will be behind America’s own Keys, who is at her best with a packed home stadium behind her. Swiatek has conceded the first set in each of her three matches so far this campaign and that coupled with a straight-set victory over Keys almost a year ago at the Italian Open suggest backing the Pole to win outright is the right call.
