THE PREDICTION

Defending champion and world number one Iga Swiatek handed out her second bagel and breadstick of the tournament on Friday, beating Veronika Kudermetova 6-0, 6-1 just two days after doing the same to Danielle Collins. The Pole started her incredible 37-match winning streak here last season, a run that saw her claim six titles on the spin including four Masters and Roland-Garros, and she looks the fair favourite to claim her 12th WTA title here. World number four Jessica Pegula lost four times to Swiatek last season in the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros and the US Open and the semi-finals at the Miami and Guadalajara Masters. The 28-year-old exacted revenge in straight sets last month to beat the Pole in the semi-finals of the United Cup, as part of eventual champions USA, and she will be eager to maintain that level against her recent nemesis.

Swiatek leads Pegula 4-2 in their head-to-head and the winner went on to win the title in all six of those tournaments, remarkably, soon to be seven. Back Swiatek to win outright here but this could be their closest match yet.
