THE PREDICTION

World number four Holger Rune beat Felix Auger-Aliassime in straight sets on Friday to get a huge start to his China Open debut. The 20-year-old took a much-needed break after a first round exit at the US Open after struggling through the last few months with a back issue but it remains to be seen how far he can go after snapping a four-match losing streak that stretches back to the Wimbledon quarter-finals - where he beat Grigor Dimitrov in the round of 16. World number 19 Dimitrov had to come back from a set down to beat Mackenzie McDonald on Friday but he should be better for an early scare. The 32-year-old has lost to Alexander Zverev in each of his last three tournaments to curtail some strong form from the summer and this looks a tough ask now against Rune, who will be much improved as one of the more backable confidence players on tour. Take Rune to earn at least a set as the likelier of two capable victors but the Dane should be coming through.
