World number 54 Mackenzie McDonald came back from a set down to beat Dominik Koepfer on Wednesday to maintain a solid run of strong form. The 26-year-old has beaten the likes of Marton Fucsovics, Aslan Karatsev and Nikoloz Basilashvili for a working level of around top 40 and that could be enough to shock former world number three Grigor Dimitrov if the Bulgarian is not up to speed. 30-year-old Dimitrov put in another strong run to the quarter-finals of Indian Wells last time out before a straight-sets defeat to Andrey Rublev but he has been beaten by players he should be dominating this season already, most recently Stefan Kozlov at the Mexican Open. Dimitrov won their only previous meeting in five sets at the 2018 Australian Open and that is warning enough to suggest the sensible move is to take the 26th seed to win at least a set here.
