French veteran Gilles Simon is just seven places ahead of world number 146 Jack Draper in this first meeting between players at least two generations apart. 20-year-old Draper is playing his first tour-level match since an impressive first round defeat to Novak Djokovic at Wimbledon in which he snatched the first set. The left-handed British prospect reached the quarter-finals of Queen’s Club via two stunning victories over Jannik Sinner and Alexander Bublik and he has since found plenty of success on the Challenger circuit – winning three of five events played this year. Former world number six Simon has 14 ATP titles to his name, his most recent coming at the Open 13 in Marseille back in 2018, but just one win this season suggests backing Draper to win at least a set as the likelier winner is a reasonable option here.
