World number 31 Frances Tiafoe came back from a set down to beat Brandon Nakashima in the late night match on Friday. The 24-year-old could match his career-high ATP world ranking of 29th if he wins here and other results go his way via some excellent recent form, the pinnacle of which was finishing runner-up to Alexander Zverev at the Vienna Open late last year. Tiafoe won his only ATP title to date at the Delray Beach Open, in Florida, back in 2018.

20-year-old Juan Manuel Cerundolo shocked Dusan Lajovic in the first round of the Miami Open on Wednesday and after seeing Matteo Berrettini pull out of the tournament he recalibrated well to beat lucky loser Kevin Anderson in three sets on very short notice. The current world number 122 set a career-high ATP world ranking of 79th last season after winning the Cordoba Open, remarkably, on his tour debut.
THE PREDICTION
Frances Tiafoe will have thoroughly enjoyed the late night win on Friday but he can often be caught cold crashing back down to Earth in the round after a big result. On a hardcourt he should be beating impressive youngster Juan Manuel Cerundolo nine times out of 10 but the Argentine has already exceeded expectations by reaching the third round and he has already proven to be a confidence player capable of streaks. The cautious pick for an accumulator would be for Tiafoe to win at least a set as the likelier of two very capable winners in this first meeting with each other. Otherwise, the American can be backed to win outright with a pinch of salt.
