THE PREDICTION

This should be a fascinating and likely thrilling fourth clash between world number four Jannik Sinner and number 14 Frances Tiafoe, particularly as the American comes in from a confidence boosting victory over Gael Monfils on Thursday. The 25-year-old came back from a set down to beat Monfils to improve on his recent form that has nose-dived, other than brief respite at the Laver Cup, since his tough quarter-final exit to Ben Shelton at the US Open. 22-year-old Sinner beat Shelton on Wednesday to open his Vienna account, avenging a defeat to the young American in Shanghai three weeks ago, and he backed that up with a solid result over Lorenzo Sonego on Thursday. Sinner leads their head-to-head 2-1 but each of their three matches have seen sets go both ways and, notably, Tiafoe won their most recent clash to reach the finals here two years ago. The suitably cautious call is backing Sinner to earn at least a set given his excellent recent form but three sets could well be the shrewd move.

BETTING TIP: Jannik Sinner to win a set.
