THE PREDICTION

Defending champion Felix Auger-Aliassime will be ecstatic with his performance over top seed Holger Rune on Saturday, winning the battle of the out-of-sorts young stars in straight sets. The Canadian has won four matches on the spin for the first time since beating Rune in the final here last season after enduring a tough 2023 so far and his confidence should be visibly restored when he takes to court for this potential thriller. World number 11 Hubert Hurkacz can usurp Taylor Fritz into ninth place in the race to Turin with victory here and certainly has the form after claiming his second Masters title in Shanghai earlier this month. The 26-year-old overcame a resurgent Ugo Humbert in three sets on Saturday, a very tough result against an improving future top 10 player, but Auger-Aliassime’s result over Rune is the pick of their combined results this week.

Auger-Aliassime leads their head-to-head record 2-1 but this first clash since last summer sees the Pole in the brighter ascendency. Three of their six sets played have gone to a tiebreak so take at least one here to avoid siding with either player. If forced to, however, back Hurkacz to just edge this in his current form.

BETTING TIP: Over 0.5 tiebreaks.
