THE PREDICTION

Former world number six Felix Auger-Aliassime takes on current number six Casper Ruud after an impressive turn on his least effective surface but this should be several steps too far for the Canadian. 23-year-old Auger-Aliassime was in control against rising star Jakub Mensik on Monday before the teenager was forced to retire injured but a 6-2 record on clay this month would be a relative surprise in any of his seasons, even at the peak of his powers in 2022, as something of a hardcourt specialist.

Former number two Ruud is riding a seven-match winning streak on his favoured clay, however, and back-to-back straight-set wins so far in Madrid suggest he will need top five quality to oust him. The 25-year-old has won more matches than anyone else on tour this year, reaching four finals and winning the most recent in Barcelona two weeks ago, and he has won each of the last three against Auger-Aliassime to bring a convincing 3-1 lead into their fifth encounter. Back Ruud to win in straight sets.

TIP: CASPER RUUD TO WIN 2-0
