30-year-old Federico Coria is up to a career-high ATP world ranking of 60th after a decent start to his 2022 season and he played like it on Tuesday to oust Alejandro Davidovich Fokina in the first round in Marrakech. The Argentine fares a decent chance at a rare semi-final here on his favoured clay but 35-year-old French veteran Richard Gasquet will also have designs on a title whose draw has opened up considerably since the loss of Felix Auger-Aliassime. Former world number seven Gasquet reached the Umag Open final last season on clay before defeat to Carlos Alcaraz and wins over the likes of Ugo Humbert, twice in fact, suggest he can find a working level higher than Coria in this first meeting between the two.
