THE PREDICTION
This will be an interesting clash between two American youngsters in world number 151 Patrick Kypson, who received a wildcard to make his main draw debut at Indian Wells, and 19-year-old Ethan Quinn, who will break inside the top 250 for the first time after qualifying to make his bow. 24-year-old Kypson brings some eye-catching form into the desert after a brilliant run to his first tour-level quarter-final in Delray Beach last month, stunning last season’s runner-up Miomir Kecmanovic in the first round, and he beat Quinn in the Cleveland Challenger final this time last month to look the favourite on form. The elder American leads their off-tour head-to-head 3-0 but this first ATP tour meeting will be the toughest yet, particularly as younger debutantes tend to play with less pressure in these conditions. The home crowd will have a tough time backing both players equally, and that should also end up favouring the teenager, so back Kypson to win at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
TIP: PATRICK KYPSON TO WIN A SET
