25-year-old Thanasi Kokkinakis is yet to drop a set at the Miami Open after blasting through the qualifiers to beat Richard Gasquet in two on Thursday. The charismatic Aussie finally won the first ATP title of his injury-hampered career back in January, on home soil at Adelaide 2 with a tight victory over Arthur Rinderknech. Kokkinakis took that form straight into a stunning Australian Open Men’s Doubles title-winning campaign alongside friend and compatriot Nick Kyrgios and the pair won their opening match at the Miami Open on Thursday. This should be an entertaining first meeting with world number 15 Diego Schwartzman with the slightest scent of an upset about it.
The Argentine struggled to break down John Isner in a third round loss at Indian Wells last time out and he dropped a set to Emil Ruusuvuori in the round before. The suitably cautions option for an accumulator is taking Schwartzman to win at least a set here as the likelier of two capable winners but a one-off on Kokkinakis to win one could be the shrewd move.
