That leaves the former world number two in an excellent position as the second seed behind Ons Jabeur, particularly with in-form Sorana Cirstea dropping out of the draw on Wednesday. 19-year-old Diana Shnaider will break inside the top 80 for the first time after reaching the quarter-finals in Ningbo in assured straight sets over Kamilla Rakhimova. The Russian burst onto the scene with a stellar display in a three-set defeat to Maria Sakkari at the Australian Open in January and her big game mentality should come into play here, particularly as two left-handers could limit some of Kvitova’s fiercer angles. Three sets would not be surprise here so back Kvitova to win outright.
