Current world number two Daniil Medvedev can regain the top spot from Novak Djokovic if he reaches the round of 16 at the Miami Open. The 26-year-old was shocked in the third round of Indian Wells from a set up against Gael Monfils last time out with fellow Frenchman Ugo Humbert the only other player to beat him this season not called Rafael Nadal. Medvedev won the US Open last season for a crowning achievement from his 13 career ATP titles, with four Masters titles amongst that number.

Former world number one Andy Murray looked in decent shape against Federico Delbonis on Thursday, beating the Argentine in straight sets without facing a break point. The current orld number 85 owns 14 Masters trophies including the Miami Open won here in 2009 and 2013. 34-year-old Murray also owns three Grand Slam titles from the US Open in 2012 and Wimbledon in 2013 and 2016 as well as three Gold Medals (two in Singles, one in Mixed Doubles) amongst his 46 career titles.
THE PREDICTION
This has all the hallmarks of a thriller if Andy Murray can find the kind of form that took him to five sets against Stefanos Tsitsipas at the US Open last September. The Brit will be taking some time away from the tour after the Miami Open to focus on the grass season alongside returning coach Ivan Lendl, under whom he won all three of his Grand Slams, so there is a certain ‘nothing-to-lose’ feel to this encounter with the Russian. World number two Daniil Medvedev blinked against Gael Monfils last time out at Indian Wells but that makes him less likely to do so here, with a 1-0 lead in their head-to-head record likely to double come the end of this encounter.
