33-year-old Dan Evans set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 21st last week after winning the most prestigious title of his career at the Washington Open. The Brit suffered an early exit in Toronto, though, to drop a large sum of ranking points from his semi-final exit at the Canada Masters last summer. It remains to be seen if Evans’ loss to Gabriel Diallo was a blip or more of an exhaustion plug after such high-level tennis in Washington but world number 18 Lorenzo Musetti impressed in a run to the round of 16 to look very competitive in this potential thriller. The Italian leads Evans 2-0 in their head-to-head but both matches came on his favoured clay, with hardcourt conditions slightly favouring the Brit this time around. Back Evans to earn at least a set to leave the victor up to chance.
