THE PREDICTION
World number 14 Grigor Dimitrov came back from a set down to beat old foe Andy Murray on Monday in a quality first round clash. The 32-year-old enjoyed an impressive upturn in form from the summer of last season, reaching the round of 16 at Wimbledon and several semi-finals on tour before finishing runner-up to Novak Djokovic at the Paris Masters. It will be fascinating to see what the former number three can do in this renaissance form over the coming months but caution should still be taken with one of the more unpredictable players on tour. World number 56 Daniel Altmaier began 2024 with a solid straight-set victory over Li Tu on Tuesday but he will have to be at his best to beat Dimitrov for the first time after suffering two straight-set defeats to the Bulgarian in recent years. Back Dimitrov to be better than his opener but an outright call looks the sensible concession at this early stage.
