The teenager gained revenge on Qiang Wang in the second round after the Chinese shocked her in the first round of the Australian Open and she is coming into her own in Miami. No matter the outcome of this toughest of draws, Gauff’s clay swing should be fruitful once again after she reached the quarter-finals of Roland-Garros last season.

Incoming world number one Iga Swiatek is in the bullish kind of form that saw her race to victory at Roland-Garros in 2020 as a teenager. Now 20 years old, Swiatek has conceded just five games in two matches so far this campaign and she takes a 13-match winning streak into the round of 16 after winning back-to-back Masters events at the Qatar Open and Indian Wells. The Pole owns three Masters titles overall after claiming the Italian Open last season.
THE PREDICTION
Iga Swiatek beat Coco Gauff in straight sets at last season’s Italian Open on her way to a first Masters title there and one year on she has won two more as the incoming world number one. The 20-year-old’s 13-match winning streak is hard to look past here no matter how well Gauff is playing in Miami. The teenager will be well-backed on Monday but Swiatek is a popular player, deservingly so, with this match likely to be a well-contested straight-sets victory once again for the Pole.
