We may well be seeing the resurgence of former world number 33 Clara Tauson after the 20-year-old came back from a set down to beat a tough foe in Camila Giorgi on Thursday. The Dane was a clear rising star in 2021 but after enduring a tough second season last year she looks ready to move back inside the top 100 and beyond in 2023, with her stunning upset over Irina-Camelia Begu in the first round setting the tone. World number 34 Petra Martic overcame Alison Van Uytvanck in three tight sets on Thursday but this will be the sixth seed’s toughest match of the week so far in a first meeting with Tauson. There are more questions than answers here but given both players saw three sets in their round of 16 clashes back Tauson, on a hot streak of upsets, to earn at least a set and leave the victor up to chance.
