22-year-old Jack Draper could be set for special fortnight here at Indian Wells if he can replicate his form from Acapulco last week. The Brit set a career-high ATP world ranking of 37th after a run to the semi-finals of the Mexican Open, where he eased past three tough foes including Tommy Paul before illness got the better of him in a three-set exit to eventual champion Alex de Minaur. Draper reached his first tour final at the Sofia Open at the end of last season and then finished runner-up to Jiri Lehecka in Adelaide to kick-off 2024, suggesting that he can break inside the top 30 at least this season whilst targeting a first title. World number 66 Christopher O’Connell has enjoyed some strong results in recent weeks but straight-set exits to Emil Ruusuvuori and Hubert Hurkacz suggest the Aussie is the reasonable underdog here. 29-year-old O’Connell enjoyed perhaps the form of his career this time last season but recent results suggest Draper can hit the ground running in here.
