THE PREDICTION

26-year-old Christopher Eubanks will set a new career-high ATP world ranking of 85th even if he loses this first ever Masters quarter-final but the American can play without pressure after a dream run so far in Miami. Eubanks has been a fixture in early rounds of Grand Slams over the last few seasons but a run like this had looked beyond the current world number 119 until this fortnight, with an upset victory over Borna Coric in the second round giving him the confidence to exert force on Gregoire Barrere and Adrian Mannarino. This should, however, be the end of the road against former world number one Daniil Medvedev, who has come through to the quarter-finals totally untroubled as he continues his red-hot form this season. The 27-year-old enjoyed a 19-match winning streak up until the Indian Wells final, where he lost to Carlos Alcaraz, but he much prefers the conditions in Miami in his last hardcourt oasis before the tricky clay swing. It could be worth opting for at least a tiebreak here alongside Medvedev to win but the outright call remains the sensible option.
