Jasmine Paolini vs Diana Shnaider prediction

Jasmine Paolini’s mission to become the first Italian woman in 40 years to win the singles crown in Rome is gathering pace after a superb victory over Jelena Ostapenko. 

The sixth seed stood firm as the streaky Latvian red-lined early on before seizing control late in the first set and going on to triumph 7-5 6-2.

Paolini meets 13th seed Diana Shnaider in the last eight after the Russian picked up a maiden win over Elise Mertens with a crushing 6-2 6-3 success. 

This will be their second encounter with the Italian bagging a 6-3 6-4 success at the 2024 Australian Open.

The 21-year-old Shnaider has grown in stature since then, but Paolini is revelling in the passionate support of the home crowd and that may well inspire her to surge through again.
