THE PREDICTION
23-year-old Casper Ruud set a new career-high ATP world ranking of seventh after reaching a first Masters final, surprisingly coming on a hard court at the Miami Open despite his quality on the clay. The Norwegian lost to Carlos Alcaraz in the final and he may well meet the Spaniard a few more times over a clay swing the pair look set to excel in. Ruud won the Buenos Aires Open back in February for a sixth clay-court ATP title and a seventh overall. 18-year-old Holger Rune will also set a new career-high ATP world ranking of at least 75th after he claimed the best win of his season with a three-set result over an out-of-sorts Aslan Karatsev. The Dane, like fellow Scandinavian Ruud, is at his best on the clay and he will be one to watch over the next few months too.
Ruud leads this head-to-head record 2-0 having so far dismissed the younger Rune to the tune of three and two games conceded here at the Monte-Carlo Open last season and later in the Summer at the Bastad Open. Backing the in-form top tenner to win this in straight sets is something of a risk given Rune’s performance on Tuesday but it should feasibly come through. An outright pick would be wise for an accumulator, though.
