World number seven Casper Ruud should be considered a serious title contender here in Monte-Carlo after he finished runner-up to Carlos Alcaraz at the Miami Open late last month. The 23-year-old beat future star Holger Rune in straight sets on Wednesday for a tough opener that should benefit him going forward. Ruud has won six of his seven ATP titles on his favoured clay, including the Buenos Aires Open back in February, with last season’s San Diego Open his first and only hardcourt title to date. He beat Grigor Dimitrov in three sets in the semi-finals of that tournament in their only previous encounter and the conditions in Monte-Carlo should favour him even more this time around. World number 29 Grigor Dimitrov has beaten two tough opponents this week in Nikoloz Basilashvili and Dusan Lajovic, from a set behind, on Tuesday but the former world number three has not beaten a top 10 player since last October and not on clay since David Goffin here way back in 2018. Take Ruud to win outright.
