World number eight Casper Ruud is yet to drop a set at the Miami Open after a straightforward victory over Alexander Bublik on Sunday. The 23-year-old recently won the seventh ATP title of his young career at the Buenos Aires Open, a sixth on his favoured clay surface, and he looks set for a prolific few months on the clay swing. Ruud won his solitary hardcourt title at the San Diego Open last summer, beating Cam Norrie in the final.
CAMERON NORRIE
26-year-old Cam Norrie is currently set to break the top 10 for a first time next Monday if Jannik Sinner or Taylor Fritz cannot better his results at the Miami Open. The British number one recently won the third ATP title of his career at the Delray Beach Open, with all three of his titles so far coming on North American soil. Norrie’s exceptional breakthrough season in 2021 was capped off with a first Masters title at Indian Wells last October.
THE PREDICTION
This is a tricky match-up for Cam Norrie as his incredible rise up the rankings over the last season has been claimed via wins over players ranked largely below him. That is not to say he cannot beat Casper Ruud for a first time here but the Norwegian’s 2-0 lead in their head-to-head record does not bode well, especially on hardcourts where you would expect the Brit to have the edge. This match could go anywhere, so backing Ruud to win at least a set seems the sensible way out of picking a winner.
